Leeds agency launches ‘Busk Stop’ for young musicians – and lands major news coverage

Leeds-based creative agency Umpf has unveiled a new community initiative in Glasgow transforming a city centre shopping mall into a stage for the next generation of musical talent.

Commissioned by Buchanan Galleries, the indoor “Busk Stop” gives young musicians a platform to perform in a high-footfall, weatherproof setting tackling the city’s lack of youth-friendly busking spots despite its vibrant street music culture.

The concept, developed and delivered by Umpf, kicked off with an opening set by 11-year-old local singer Rachel Ronnie. Open to young performers throughout the summer, the free-to-book slots offer hour-long opportunities for budding artists to grow their confidence in front of a live audience.

Kathy Murdoch, Centre Director at Buchanan Galleries, said: “We’re incredibly excited to have launched our ‘Busk Stop’ with Rachel Ronnie’s performance. At just 11 years old, Rachel represents the talent, passion, and creativity we want to spotlight throughout the summer.

“Glasgow already has a buzzing busking scene, and we’re proud to be able to provide a platform that supports the next generation of artists. Our ‘Busk Stop’ not only provides a new layer of entertainment for our guests but also gives young local artists a platform to perform, develop their confidence, and share their talents, in a safe, welcoming and vibrant space, come rain or shine.”

The project reflects Umpf’s continued focus on experiential and purpose-led campaigns, blending placemaking, community engagement and creativity in a format that benefits both the brand and the local arts scene.

Umpf is known for its award-winning work across PR, digital and creative campaigns. The initiative has already won coverage in several regional and national news publications, including the Daily Record and Daily Mail.
