Jeremy Clarkson will continue to host Who Wants to be a Millionaire? according to ITV.
There were reports that he wouldn’t return to the show after a column he wrote in The Sun about the Duchess of Sussex.
The column has since been removed by newspaper at Clarkson’s request.
Today’s news comes following an interview in Variety overnight with ITV CEO, Carolyn McCall, who was being honoured as Variety’s International Media Woman of the Year.
“We have a contract,” she told Variety.
“We’re contracted to this [season], so we will do that. […] And then we have no future commitments. And we haven’t made any statements about that.”
An ITV spokesperson today clarified the position:
“As we have said for several weeks, ITV is contractually committed to a further series of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? (which has now been recorded).
“There are no further commissioning commitments beyond that currently as is typical with such shows where we make commissioning decisions on a series-by-series basis.
“Therefore for the avoidance of doubt neither Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? nor Jeremy Clarkson have been cancelled.”
Who Wants to be a Millionaire? is recored at MediaCity-based dock10 studios.
