Hull reaches for the stars with UK’s first privately funded space cluster

A new initiative aimed at accelerating the UK’s space sector will launch in June 2025 with the opening of Space Humber, the country’s first privately funded space cluster, based at C4Di in Hull.

Serving East and North Yorkshire, while welcoming members from across the UK and beyond, Space Humber is building a dynamic, future-facing community of entrepreneurs, engineers, educators, and investors, all working to shape the next generation of space innovation.

“Space Humber is about creating opportunity and visibility for our region within the space sector,” said Flow Collingwood, Co-founder of Space Humber. “By building a community, supporting talent, and encouraging innovation, we’re ensuring that East and North Yorkshire play a central role in shaping the UK’s future in space.”

Jamie Del Grosso, co-founder of Space Humber, added: “We’ve seen first hand the incredible innovation happening across Yorkshire, and our goal is to provide the infrastructure and connections needed to amplify this talent on a global stage. The space industry is evolving rapidly, and we want to ensure our region is at the forefront of this evolution.”

Space Humber is a free-to-join membership organisation designed to support the full spectrum of the space ecosystem – from early-stage startups to established industry players, and from students and researchers to engineers and freelancers.

Highlights include:

  • Startup incubation, including the Delta V Accelerated Incubator Programme
  • A dedicated Space Careers Service, connecting people to real opportunities
  • Hackathons, engineering competitions, and STEM events to inspire and engage
  • Flexible workspace and hot-desking options via C4Di for those looking to build their business from Hull
  • An online platform for remote members to stay connected from anywhere

Space Humber has a particular focus on enabling technologies such as AI, digital infrastructure, blockchain, and cybersecurity – all critical to the future of the space industry. It is working hand-in-hand with Space Hub Yorkshire to extend their reach and strengthen the wider regional space ecosystem. The initiative aims to support and amplify the great work already happening across Yorkshire, while contributing its own distinct, privately funded programmes and long-term vision.

As the cluster grows, plans are in place to develop the Space Humber Campus, a dedicated site that will eventually offer manufacturing facilities, vacuum, thermal and shake testing, offices, and event space, helping cement the Humber region as a key player in the national and international space economy.

Space Humber was founded by Flow Collingwood and Jamie Del Grosso, business leaders behind Pan Galactic, a company creating security software for the space industry, winner of UK Space Tech Startup of the Year and based in Hull.

They are joined by Matthew Child, founder of Mach Space and former chief architect at Space Applications Catapult. The initiative was brought to life by founding partners Wykeland Group, Space Hub Yorkshire, Pan Galactic and TMC3, alongside other leading educational institutions, and corporate and industry stakeholders committed to building a strong space presence in the Humber region.
