Hopeful Studio supports delivery of Washington-based ‘political Netflix’

Liverpool’s Hopeful Studio has custom designed a US customer’s new video channel in collaboration with Vimeo.

International affairs forum Atlantic Council has launched its first OTT video streaming channel, dubbed “like a politically topical Netflix,” which features exclusive expert analysis, high-level conversations, and original series focused on the biggest topical issues impacting the world today.

Using Vimeo’s globally accessible OTT technology, and with speakers including Emmanuel Macron, Samantha Power and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, production values and brand sensitivity had to be applied.

Hopeful Studio was perfectly placed to deliver, not just in terms of commercially excellent UI design, but also in accurate UI front-end web development that ensured the user experience was brand-led, friendly and contextually relevant. Having previously worked on a similar London-based initiative – Intelligence Squared Plus – using the same Vimeo technology, the studio’s skill set was only improving in preparation for newer accounts of this nature.

Ashley Semler, senior producer at the Atlantic Council, said: “Working with the Hopeful Studio team on developing the look and feel of ACTV was a dream from start to finish. They understood the Atlantic Council’s mission and goals from the beginning and helped us build out our concept and vision for the ACTV platform. The team had great design ideas and developed a concept that incorporated our brand identity in a creative way while remaining true to who we are. They thought hard about creating an intuitive user experience as well as clean visuals that would attract viewers to the site. They were also very easy to work with and incorporated our feedback into all the designs.”

Founder and CEO of Hopeful Studio Stephen Murray added: ‘This was an immensely exciting initiative because of it’s international scale. Further to this, the out-of-the-box platform default templates provided us with a great canvas to innovate. We’re also grateful to ACTV for giving us the room to design an entirely new digital style sheet, push further the brand aesthetic and craft themed content artworks. We believe our curiosity and ambition to upgrade the existing platform UI led us to develop for a platform experience closer to BBC iPlayer, Netflix and Apple TV.”
