The Guardian celebrates Manchester roots

The Guardian is marking its 200th anniversary, this year, with a series of events.

They begin next month with The Guardian at 200: Made in Manchester, an online event bringing together a range of voices from the city, where it was founded in 1821.

It will feature Guardian columnist and chair, John Harris, in conversation with Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester. There will also be Helen Pankhurst, great-granddaughter of suffragette Emmeline and granddaughter of Sylvia.

Mark Fletcher, the CEO of Manchester Pride; and Tim Burgess, lead singer of The Charlatans will also appear.

Meanwhile Guardian’s editor-in-chief Katharine Viner will also join the line-up to talk about The Guardian’s roots in Manchester.

The free, but ticketed, event will be on 11th May.
