GovToday calls in administrators

An uncertain future for staff at GovToday as the media operation has called in the administrators.

Based at MediaCityUK, the company had been undergoing a period of major growth, following more than £1m in investments.

Specialising in engaging the public and private sectors, the media and events company was founded in 2008 by Tony Farrar, Rob Hollis and Richard Taylor.

Since 2013, it had received investments from Osprey Capital Ltd and the Greater Manchester Loan Fund worth £500k; and £700k, including £476k from the North West Fund for Digital and Creative.

At the time (June 2014), Farrar stated:

“This latest round of funding is vital for us to take the content that we produce currently and elevate it to the next level in terms of video and distribution across social media.

“We have a fantastic platform and conference programme but we know we need to do more to create more engaging, sharable content that will keep us at the forefront of local government issues.

The money was used to increase its headcount and to almost double its office space, with a move from The Landing to the third floor of The White Tower.

Although its headquarters was in the North West, the majority of its events took place in the capital.

Prolific North tried to contact GovToday for comment, but there was no response this morning.
