Sheffield game developer Sumo Group has acquired Polish studio PixelAnt Games for an initial cash consideration of £250,000.

Based in Wroclaw, PixelAnt – which was founded in July 2020 and has a team of 13 developers – will become Sumo Digital’s 10th studio, and its first in mainland Europe.

Studio directors Pawel Rohleder and Adam Lasoń will continue to lead the team.

London-listed Sumo Group has paid an initial cash consideration of £250,000, with a further shares payment dependant on the results over the next two years.

Carl Cavers, chief executive at Sumo Group, said: “Increasing headcount is a key pillar of our growth strategy and accessing new pools of high-quality talent is vital to the successful execution of that strategy.

“I’m really pleased that Adam and Pawel can see the benefits of joining the Sumo family. Poland has been on our radar for some time and the acquisition of PixelAnt, who we know so well, is a great way for us to gain entry to this exciting market.”

Sumo, which also has studios in Newcastle, Nottingham, Brighton, Leeds, Leamington Spa, Warrington and Pune, India, is looking to grow the studio’s headcount “rapidly”.
