Former Times journo and Northern Soul founder launches new media training, brand and web venture

Former Times journalist and Northern Soul founder Helen Nugent has launched new media training, website creation and brand building firm Gatto Nero Media alongside experienced marketing consultant James Richardson.

Headquartered in the North West, Gatto Nero Media combines Nugent’s 26 years in journalism and 15 years in media training with Richardson’s 13 years in marketing, strategy and social media.

The company is aimed at individuals, small businesses, arts organisations and charities. It offers one-stop-shop packages, menu-based deals, bespoke plans and in-house training. Gatto Nero’s mission is to provide affordable services with a hands-on approach.

Nugent said: “Media training rates and website creation prices can be exorbitant. James and I are passionate about helping people and businesses to access these services without paying the earth. And, as a friendly and approachable small team, we are dedicated to building trusted and straightforward relationships with our clients.”

Co-founder Richardson added: “I’m really excited about the launch of Gatto Nero Media and very much looking forward to working with individuals and businesses in the North of England and further afield.”

Nugent spent 10 years writing for The Times in a variety of roles including Westminster correspondent and night editor. She returned to Manchester in 2010 where she has worked for, among others, The Guardian, The Observer, The Mail on Sunday, the i, BBC Radio 5 Live, Sky News, and The Yorkshire Post. She has also taught journalism at Salford University and Huddersfield University, and in 2013 set up Northern Soul, a website focusing on culture and enterprise in the North of England.

Co-founder Richardson James Richardson is a marketing consultant, social media specialist and the creator of Human Marketing No Jargon (HMNJ).
