This strategic move is designed to fuel the club’s ambitious off-field growth strategy.

McKie, who has previously held leadership roles at EA Sports, FIFA, Nike, The International Olympic Committee and Manchester United, joins the existing executive board, bringing a wealth of experience to elevate the club’s brand, marketing, and digital operations.
His primary focus will be to unlock commercial revenue growth, directly supporting the Club’s aspirations for sustained success both on and off the pitch.

This appointment underscores Stockport County’s commitment to continuous improvement across all operations, ensuring the club is equipped to compete at the highest levels off the pitch and build a strong foundation for continued on-field success.

In his role, McKie will oversee several growth-focused projects, while also actively participating in board meetings and broader strategic discussions. He will also provide coaching and mentorship to the club’s marketing and commercial staff, supporting it in fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.

McKie commented: “It’s a genuine privilege to join Stockport County as a non-executive director at such a pivotal time. The club’s history is incredibly rich, but it truly feels like the most exciting chapter is currently being written. County’s incredible recent trajectory is also converging with the town’s regeneration. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for the club and the community to rise together and establish themselves on the national sporting and cultural stage.”

Club CEO, Simon Wilson added: “We are delighted that Matt has accepted our offer to join the executive board and help accelerate our off-field development. As we aim for the Championship and beyond, a forward-thinking approach to our commercial operations is crucial to compete effectively. Matt’s appointment marks a significant step forward towards achieving this.

“His impact has already been felt in his initial weeks with us; his innovative thinking, creativity, and deep understanding of the commercial side of the game make him an invaluable addition to the board.”
