Redfearn said: “I’m looking forward joining the team at Radio Yorkshire and getting to watch Leeds United every week. It looks like an exciting season ahead.”

Leeds United commentator Mark Wilson added: “Neil knows of the pressure involved in football on and off the field, and can offer us insights only someone has been there and done it can. I look forward to working with him and building the stations reputation for excellent honest football coverage both on match day and during the week.”

The signing comes as the station – launched by former Leeds chairman Ken Bates in 2014 – expands its coverage area back into Leeds after an agreement with a local multiplex.

The Leeds-based station has not been available in the city since the regional MXR multiplex closed over a year ago.
