Film 4 lands in Bradford for summer screening partnership

Film4 is bringing a series of frankly rather good film screenings, premieres, and director Q&As to audiences in Bradford this summer as part of Channel 4’s major partnership for Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture.

As part of Bradford: A City of Film, Film4 has curated a selection of films with a focus on ‘Great Firsts,’ which will be shown at the National Science and Media Museum’s Pictureville Cinema this summer. This includes titles from renowned filmmaking talent such as Asif Kapadia (Amy, Senna, 2073), Martin McDonagh (The Banshees of Inisherin, Three Billboards Outside, Ebbing Missouri), and Alex Garland (28 Years Later, Warfare), as well as an exclusive look at BULK, the latest film from Ben Wheatley (Kill List, High Rise) – although not Wheatley’s directorial debut (that would be 2009’s Down Terrace for the trivia fans), the film is a return to his homegrown filmmaking roots and audience members can expect car chases, gun fights, sci-fi, and romance hot on the heels of its World Premier at the Edinburgh Film Festival on August 16. Wheatley will then participate in an exclusive Q&A alongside the film’s producer Andy Starke.

This all follows on from the exclusive preview of Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s directorial debut Hot Milk, starring Emma Mackey and Fiona Shaw, which played in Bradford this June.

For the August bank holiday weekend, Everybody’s Talking About Jamie and Sexy Beast will be shown at Ilkley Lido, one of the country’s best-preserved art-deco outdoor swimming pools. Both evenings will offer immersive screenings under the stars, with award-winning event producers Wild Rumpus, seeing audiences’ step into a cinematic wonderland to make it a truly unforgettable summer evening.

The screenings support Bradford: A City of Film, which was born from a partnership between Bradford 2025, the BFI (awarding National Lottery funding) and the National Science and Media Museum, to enable the magic of film to travel to all corners of Bradford district.
