Edit_ has produced the campaign to launch the National Portrait Gallery’s landmark Michael Jackson exhibition.

Michael Jackson: On the Wall examines the impact the musician has had on the contemporary art.

Manchester’s Edit_ is behind the print, digital and social campaign, which launched across London this week. Running throughout the summer, it is influenced by the graphics, feel and style of Jackson’s album and poster artwork, as well as some of the works on display.

“This is a groundbreaking exhibition for National Portrait Gallery with a diverse range of audiences, from lifelong Michael Jackson fans, to global art enthusiasts,” explained Edit’s design director Adrian Newell.

“Therefore we wanted to create a campaign that would show Michael Jackson as you have never seen him before, clearly communicating this as an art exhibition and putting the artists and their work front and centre within the campaign”

The agency also created invitations for the exhibition launch and worked with the Gallery’s in-house teams to produce a range of fashion, accessories and prints inspired by the works.

“We have really enjoyed working with Edit_ who responded brilliantly to our brief to create a campaign that would showcase the wide range of contemporary art featured in the exhibition and be attractive to a diverse range of audiences. The bold campaign uses multiple images across different platforms but remains cohesive and true to the National Portrait Gallery’s brand,” added Denise Vogelsang, head of communications at National Portrait Gallery.
