Doc celebrating life of 77-year-old Greater Manchester choreographer lands Stockport premiere

Greater Manchester filmmaker and Northern Spark Productions chief Mark Tuson will premier his new, 30-minute documentary about a 77-year-old local dancer/choreographer at The Light Cinema in Stockport next Tuesday.

Suzanne Brown has enjoyed a lifelong career in dance, producing large shows at the Lowry Theatre and Wythenshawe Forum, raising funds for charities such as The Christie, giving local dancers a platform to hone and showcase their dancing talents, and currently runs a mature ladies’ dance group at Life Leisure in Cheadle.

The documentary follows how the dancing group has helped its members through life challenges, from illness to shyness, and gives them friendship and community, all while keeping fit and showcasing their choreography and dance moves.

“It all starts with that lady having the confidence to step into a dance studio, which could be quite daunting, so to get that lady through the door and to see how she progresses, which could take a good year and then to see ‘ah she’s got that now,’ that’s lovely,” said teacher and choreographer Brown.

Heald Green-based filmmaker Tuson directed, produced and self-shot with the help of James Chapman on setups and additional camera work. The film was shot on Canon Cinema EOS cameras and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Tuson said: “I usually work a lot in the corporate and event video spheres so to have the opportunity to work on this wholesome project and help tell the stories of these inspiring ladies has been wonderful and I’d love to pursue more documentary storytelling just like this.”
