CBBC and Beano Studios have revealed that Freddie Fox will be the voice of Dennis the Menace in a new cartoon series.
Dennie and Gnasher: Unleashed is slated for transmission later this year and is the first television commission for DC Thomson off-shoot, Beano Studios.
Fox, who’s previously appeared in The Mystery of Edwin Drood, The Three Musketeers and Worried About The Boy will be making his CGI debut as the 10-year-old trouble-maker.
“As a life-long fan of Dennis, I am honoured to voice him for a new generation. I am so excited to be carrying on the red and black striped legacy of a character adored for his mischievousness, energy, live in the moment attitude and full-on imagination. To borrow Dennis’ catchphrase, ‘this is going to be BLAM!’” he said.
The 52-part series will act as a launch pad for Beano Studios’ online offering, or as it calls it “digital entertainment feed”, which will be available online, through mobile apps, YouTube and PopJam.
The show is being animated by Jellyfish Pictures and executive produced by Michael Elson alongside Jo Allen, executive producer for CBBC.
