MediaCityUK has appointed two agencies to develop brand and placemaking strategies ahead of the next phase of its expansion plans.

The creative, tech and digital hub, which counts the BBC and ITV among its tenants, has appointed Wayne Hemingway’s HemingwayDesign and Manchester-based brand agency Modern Designers in a joint venture.

As part of their research, the agencies have launched MediaCityUK’s largest stakeholder engagement and research programme to date, which will run for three weeks.

The survey will invite MediaCityUK businesses, residents, local communities, partners, policymakers and visitors to share their views, perceptions and experiences of MediaCityUK.

MediaCityUK is home to the likes of the BBC, ITV, dock10 and Ericsson, complemented by more than 250 smaller media and digital businesses. In total, more than 8,000 people now work, live and stud at MediaCityUK.

In August, owner Peel Media and its joint venture partner at MediaCityUK, Legal & General Capital, secured a £292.5m loan facility to fund expansion plans that will see its double its existing footprint over the next decade.

Josie Cahill, Head of Stakeholder Engagement at MediaCityUK, said: “A great place has people at its heart. MediaCityUK’s evolution is not just about buildings but about creating a place which serves the needs and aspirations of the people and organisations who are based here as well as the local community.”

Wayne Hemingway, partner at HemingwayDesign, added: “MediaCityUK has already attracted a cohort of world-renowned brands, is located at the heart of a vibrant conurbation and as it enters its second decade it feels like the time is right to think about the brand’s purpose and values and accelerate the placemaking.”
