BBC Sport prepares for the return of the Premier League

The Premier League returns to BBC One this weekend, with Football Focus the first programme to showcase the BBC’s new branding.

Flagship programmes will also incorporate new touchscreen technology.

This season will be the 25th anniversary of the league and on 15th August, fans can tune in to the very first Match of the Day of the Premier League era.  Hosted on the Red Button and online, it will be presented by Des Lynam, Gary Lineker and Alan Hansen.

The Sheffield United v Manchester United tie will be replayed in its entirety, with live text commentary and goal updates from 1992.

As well as Premier League and FA Cup action, BBC TV will also be showing highlights from the Women’s Super League on the Women’s Football Show.

On radio, 5 live will commentate on 144 live Premier League matches, it will also have action from the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Europa League, Home Nations’ internationals and Scottish Premiership and Championship. Women’s football will be on 5 live sports extra.

Online, the BBC is marking the Premier League anniversary with the ultimate BBC Premier League Team Selector. Users can pick their best line-up of all time, with the players debated on The Premier League Show on August 16th and 24th.

BBC Sport online will also include a vote on the best ever Premier League goal and clips to document its history.
