Helen Munson has been appointed as BBC Daytime’s first Commissioning Editor, to be based in the North East of England.

Munson has been Head of Planning and Scheduling for Daytime and Early Peak since 2015 and her role will be to support indies based in the region.

“This is a really exciting opportunity to build on and develop relationships with suppliers in the north,” she said.

“I am from the North East, and I know that there is such a wealth of talent out there who I’m really looking forward to working with. Being based there puts me in the perfect place to develop ideas with companies which showcase the amazing creative diversity the Northern regions have to offer.”

In the new role, she will commission content for BBC One, BBC Two and BBC iPlayer, covering live, formatted factual, factual-entertainment, scripted, entertainment and documentary series.

She will report to Carla-Maria Lawson, the BBC’s Head of Daytime and Early-Peak, who added:

“We are committed to reflecting the lives of our viewers across the UK on BBC Daytime and Early Peak, and Helen is a passionate advocate for content that does just that. By returning to her roots in the North East we are sure she will be a huge asset in enhancing our representation in the region as well as helping to build our community of suppliers.”

Since 2017, Munson has been the Commissioning Editor on a number of BBC Daytime factual titles including Island Medics, Farmers Country Showdown and the upcoming series, Saved and Remade.
