Regional publishers unveil online election tools
Online tools designed to help readers decide on where to place their vote have been unveiled by two regional publishers.
‘Find My Seat' is Trinity Mirror’s latest cross-title election initiative, following the launch of local manifestos across 26 titles last month.
It aims to show readers how their communities measure against the national average - readers enter their postcode into the widget to produce a raft of information about their constituency, such as who the election candidates are and how it compares with the rest of the country on a range of categories.
The figures have all been taken from a range of official sources including the Office for National Statistics, the Department for Work and Pensions and the Land Registry.
The Find My Seat project - which has been rolled out on titles including the Manchester Evening News, Liverpool Echo and Newcastle Chronicle - was devised by Trinity Mirror Regional's data unit, and data was compiled by Patrick Scott.
Sarah Lester, who is heading Trinity Mirror’s regional election coverage, said: “It's our job to provide our readers with everything they need to know ahead of polling day. We are determined to look at new ways to make this important information accessible.
“Find My Seat is one of a number of services we’re rolling out to engage and inform readers ahead of the General Election."

And Local World, whose Northern titles include the Hull Daily Mail, has launched a ‘General Election Compass’ survey which allows readers to offer their views on issues including taxation, immigration, Europe, public spending and the party leaders.
Steve Anglesey, digital content director at Local World, said: “Our Election Compass will help readers navigate the closest race in living memory and give our titles regionalised insights into how the campaign is developing in their constituencies.”
