Cumbria Magazine has a new editor – John Manning. Previously a freelance outdoor journalist for the past seven years, Manning wrote for several leading consumer titles including BBC Countryfile Magazine, The Great Outdoors magazine, The Ramblers’ quarterly journal Walk, and others. He also edited Lakeland Walker will continue to do that.
Speaking about his appointment to the publication which has been published for more than 50 years and sells 13,000 copies each month, Manning said:
“We’ll continue to report on and reflect upon the culture, lifestyles, industry and traditions within the county and introduce a few new regular features which I hope will further entertain and enthral the existing readership, and hopefully attract a few new faces along in the process.
“Way back in 1947 Cumbria was the first magazine devoted to the county and, while it’s been joined by a handful of competitors since, it’s still the leader.
“I’m not going to change such a winning formula overnight but hope the gradual refinements that will filter through over the next few months will further reinforce Cumbria’s position as market leader.
Cumbria’s a very well-established county magazine with a loyal readership and a fine team of expert contributors who know the county and its people inside out.”
Manning’s career began on West Yorkshire weeklies 28 years ago as a trainee on the Todmorden News and Advertiser and rose to as assistant editor, then left after two years to join the Brighouse Echo.
