Booths GplusRetailer Booths is this monthly launching a series of live interactive cook-alongs, filmed in-store in front of an audience of customers and streamed live via a Google+ Hangout in what the company claims is a first in Europe for a supermarket chain.

The first cook-along will take place at Booths MediaCity store in Salford this Wednesday 5 June 2013 at 7pm led by Booths’ head chef Rob Morris as he prepares a seasonal dish.

Morris will be joined by five leading food and wine bloggers, including Rachel McGrath of Dolly Bakes and Karen Burns Booth of Lavender and Loveage while Rosie Shelley, a community manager with Google will be participating as the search engine joins in to ensure Hangout is progressing throughout the 30 minute session as intended…

The broadcast will be publicised in advance to customers of Booths 29 stores across the North West and Yorkshire prior to the cook-along as the retailer aims to encourage customers to cook-along at home and interact using the hashtag #BoothsCookAlong and sharing their videos on YouTube.

Booths currently has approaching 3,000 people in its Google social circles and in turn the search giant is planning to promote the #BoothsCookAlong event on the Google UK page which reaches over 500,000 users.

Danny Martin, marketing manager at Booths said: “We understand the value of integrating social media into the shopping experience and are constantly looking to innovate and pioneer the latest ways to interact with our customers.

“Listening to and engaging with customers is of the utmost importance to Booths and Google+ Hangouts is a perfect environment to create these conversations. We hope as many people as possible join the discussion and cook along with us”.

The cook-alongs follow the retailer’s live Twitter parties that it staged in the run up to last Christmas when it hosted weekly #BoothsCheers events promoting wines and beers and engaging customers online. Booths claims that its #BoothsCheers initiatives generated a reach of over 2,000,000.
