Where We Work: Apadmi, Manchester

Apadmi

When digital product business Apadmi saw growth “accelerating” around 2020, so did the need for a bigger workspace.

After doubling in size as a business in just two years, Apadmi made the move to Manchester’s buzzing MediaCity taking up residency in a custom-space at the top of the Anchorage building.

Despite opening just before Covid lockdown hit, the space continued to stay open for colleagues who needed a safe space to work. When normality returned, the company continued to operate in a hybrid approach with many colleagues returning to the office to connect and collaborate.

Towards the end of last year as Apadmi continued to grow, the company further expanded and opened additional office space on the first floor.

The expansion of the office marked a “pivotal milestone” on the company’s journey, creating a hub for its growing team to come together, work and collaborate.

We take a look behind the scenes and find out what happens behind the scenes at Apadmi’s Manchester HQ…

Garry Partington, CEO and co-founder of Apadmi, introduces us to the Manchester HQ…

“The space at Anchorage is ideal for us. The location and views are amazing and we have created the perfect workspace that blends tech and creativity. With headcount increasing by 60% to almost 250 as of February 2023, our new 1st floor space allows us to facilitate our continued growth.”

Where is it?

Level 9, Anchorage Two, Salford Quays, M50 3XE

How big is it? (What facilities are there?):

Our nineth floor space is 12,500 sq ft equipped with a fully fitted kitchen, multiple break-out spaces and meeting rooms and a large collab space for up to 100 people.

The first floor space has a fully fitted (and well stocked) bar, multiple meeting rooms, a large event space for up to 100 people including a large screen and full audio suite for presentations.

What happens there?

The key priority for the new Apadmi space is to be a hub, in which our growing team can come together, work and collaborate. To do that, we needed a space that catered to the world of hybrid working that’s become our new normal. The area is fitted with breakout spaces, meeting rooms, hotspot areas, private booths and more. A collaborative hub for hybrid meetings, get togethers and brainstorms – so we can keep that special Apadmi magic, wherever our people are.

The space also doubles as our ‘Apadmi Academy’ where we provide on-the-job training to those starting their careers in tech, through apprenticeships and our graduate programmes. This new area allows us to host more training sessions, knowledge-sharing forums and more, to give our talented interns and graduates the best chance at success.

What sort of work goes on?

Apadmi design, develop and optimise mobile apps for leading brands. We unlock new value through strategy, platforms, middleware and systems integrations that transform the way they work. We innovate with the likes of Co-op, Domino’s and the NHS and work across a range of sectors from retail to telco to financial services.

Why is the workplace appropriate?

The open space is perfect for allowing individuals and teams to work together on our fast-moving projects. The space also allows for clients to join us frequently in the office for strategy days to continue injecting pace and innovation into all the products we deliver.

Who works there?

Apadmi has 250 staff total but our hybrid model means that while some colleagues are in the office, others are dialing in thanks to our multitude of meeting rooms, pods and collaboration spaces with all the latest video call tech installed. Our workforce is indicative of many tech businesses, with over 50% of our workforce made up of engineers, followed by product owners, project managers and designers. We are supported by business support functions across people, finance, marketing and dales to name a few.
