First look inside Colony Spring Gardens – a new creative hub in Manchester’s business district

Colony has opened the doors to its latest flexible workspace and judging by this sneak peak it might just be its most stylish yet.

In the first of our new Spaces and Places series, looking inside some of the North’s most interesting buildings from creative studios to cutting-edge workspaces, we’ve been given exclusive access to a brand new venue from flexible workspace provider Colony.

Perched on the fifth floor of 19 Spring Gardens, a stone’s throw from transport hubs like Victoria and Piccadilly, this thoughtfully designed new space marks Colony’s seventh location in the city, adding to its established presence in Ancoats, New Islington and Piccadilly.

Inside, it’s exactly what we’ve come to expect from Colony. It’s design-led, community-focused, and full of small details that make a big difference. The interiors nod to the building’s name with a garden-inspired aesthetic – earthy tones, natural oak finishes and greenery wherever you look. It’s warm, welcoming and purpose-built to support both solo work and collaboration.

The space offers a range of flexible working options, from private offices for teams, to dedicated coworking desks, phone booths, meeting rooms, and casual breakout areas. There’s even an outdoor terrace.

The venue is already buzzing. With 90% of coworking desks taken and private offices at peak occupancy across the network, demand is clearly high. Colony’s in-house Product Team is now working at pace to complete the third floor to accommodate even more of Manchester’s growing business community.

Helping to build that community are Jonathan Paton and Sharon Lee, the experienced duo who previously managed Colony’s Jactin House and have now made the leap across the city to welcome members here.

And the expansion isn’t stopping any time soon because Colony has already confirmed its eighth venue will open at 76 King Street in late 2025, promising even more workspace, event space and even a podcast studio.
