A Week in My Life: Lucia Davies, Founder, Lucia’s World

Lucia's World

Lucia Davies is a children’s writer, performer and the founder of Lucia’s World, an interactive children’s digital platform.

‘Lucia’s World’ encourages children to be creative outdoors and reduce screen time.

Following the success of her first children’s book, an anti-bullying book called Pod, Davies also has two charity singles under her belt and is a regular guest on BBC Radio Manchester.

Currently in talks with investors and media production companies to turn her ideas into a TV show, Davies shares a recent week in her busy life.

Monday

Monday’s are like every other week day in Lucia’s World: flexible and spontaneous, anything could happen! My life’s work is about healthy connections so I’m always networking, reaching out and hoping to collaborate with other like minded individuals. I’m currently overseeing all our social media platforms and setting up finance meetings. Today I’m following up from a Friday zoom meeting with my long standing chartered accountant Eric. I’m bringing together the digital team to tweak our pitch deck for the next stage of investment. We need to add some more graphics and some sample videos in order to make it pop.

Tuesday

On Tuesday’s, my daughter Frankie finishes school early so I try to make sure I’m at home so we can hang out together. She’s a teenager now and has set up her own business growing and selling seeds, plants and food products. She makes an amazing chili oil. Together we learn through play and I record the progress she’s making in her ‘Sunshine Garden.’ Autumn is all about harvesting sunflower seeds and drying out broad beans, planting potatoes and picking pumpkins. Together we will film reels and take photos to use as content in the app next year. Frankie has been an integral part in developing the platform and continues to contribute on a daily basis. Lucia’s World is real so it’s 24/7.

Wednesday

Wednesday’s are great for lifting people’s spirits as many in the workplace see humpday as a difficult day to self motivate. I often arrange mid week meetings in cafe’s and restaurants to break that cycle and try to get out and about more, travelling further a field. I might visit schools or universities to give talks on anti bullying and equality during the week, pending schools availability of course as often these appointments have to be booked months in advance as schools have less flexi time to be spontaneous which is a real shame.

Thursday

I’m hoping to have things tied up with a clear view of what direction the following week ahead might take so planning things like, taking the van in for its MOT, keeping an eye on banking and hiring freelancers to help with PR and Pod Casting. I’m always sorting out bits and bobs, tying up loose ends, following things up it’s a very fluid role and as CEO of the company, I wear many different hats.

Friday

Fridays often spill into the weekends and again I can be at home in rehearsals for my online performances, playing the piano, writing lyrics to a new song or out and about location spotting for our next music video.

With the next stage of investment we will be releasing a new, story, song and music video every month as well as recording and filming content for our YouTube channel and podcast, so 2024 will look very different as we go into full time production, marketing and further platform development.

My business has always been centred around my lifestyle so it doesn’t feel like work. I work hard but it’s a vocational career path that brings me the greatest joy. I’m constantly learning, growing and adapting, I’m shaking things up and disrupting the market. I’m bringing change, and my passion for educating children through play is evident in my day to day life.
