FC United joins new Manchester digital platform Wakelet

FC United has joined fledgling Manchester news and media platform, Wakelet.

It’s been developed as a place for people and organisations to organise information from various multimedia sources and websites into collections – or “Wakes.”

It was actually founded 3 years ago by Jamil Khalil, but struggling to find investment, he turned to LinkedIn to ask for people to get involved in return for a share in the new business.

“I love Manchester and I want to make a real difference in the city. I’ve thought for some time that the web is a bit of a mess really, with information scattered all over place. How can we make sense of it all? How can we put relevant information in one place so it’s easier to find? Hopefully Wakelet can help that,” he explained.

FC United is planning to combine all of the teams photos, videos and news links into the one platform, accessible from its main website.

“At FC United we have a lot of information, scattered across different platforms, that is sometimes difficult to find online so we wanted to group it all together and Wakelet looks to be an ideal way of doing that,” said FC United press and communications officer Andy Walker.

“They are also a Manchester-based company run by Manchester people who want to make a difference and we liked that too.”

The club isn’t the highest profile “Waker” as during a pitch to 200 investors at St James’ Palace earlier this year, Prince Andrew set up his own wake.
