Replays and multiple camera angles on your mobile at the Etihad with new wifi deal
Football fans will soon be able to access replays and multiple camera angles on their mobile devices, with the introduction of a new wi-fi system at Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium.
While this won’t be available immediately, that’s the plan being developed as the club introduces Cisco’s Connected Stadium high density wi-fi system. This will enable thousands of devices to use a high speed internet connection.
The deal has come about through the club’s partnership with O2 and as well as encouraging social media interaction between fans, there are plans to introduce StadiumVision Mobile “in the near future.” This system is able to deliver live video, event information and multiple channels of content. That could mean offering multiple camera views and replays, the system is currently being used in the NBA at Brooklyn Nets' Barclays Center:
“As a club that is passionate about innovation and prides itself on constantly looking for ways to enhance our supporters’ experience at the Etihad Stadium, we feel we have found the perfect solution with O2 and Cisco,” explained Manchester City’s chief commercial and operating officer, Tom Glick.
“With the ground and its immediate vicinity offering ubiquitous connectivity, we will soon be able to provide full talk and texting capabilities, while paving the way for exciting new mobile data applications and services – such as mobile video - that will ensure a visit to the Etihad Stadium continues to be one of the best sports experiences available anywhere in the world.”
A month ago, Liverpool FC became the first club to install wireless internet at its ground, with the first phase covering its Centenary Stand and corporate facilities.
