Educating Little Hulton as Channel 4 heads to Salford

Northern Digital Awards 2020

TwoFour is filming a fifth series of its award-winning Educating… format, this time at Harrop Fold in Little Hulton.

It comes after a year-long break for the production, which has previously been filmed in Cardiff and Yorkshire.

“We feel privileged to be bringing Educating back for a fifth series and are thrilled it’s coming to the North West. We haven’t been to a school quite like Harrop Fold before and look forward sharing the stories of its inspirational teachers and students, as well as the remarkable work the school does in the local community,” said Grace Reynolds, executive producer at TwoFour.

Harrop Fold has been transformed over the last few years. Back in 2005, parents filed Freedom of Information requests to find out about conditions at the school, which was then described as regulators being “intimidating and unsafe.”

A super head was brought in to successfully turn things around, and in 2010, he was replaced by current headteacher, Drew Povey.

“The school has been on an incredible journey over recent years and we are extremely proud of our students, staff and local community. We have been given the opportunity to share our story through the Educating series, we believed it was something that we had to do,” explained Povey.

“Team Harrop has been galvanised by its significant challenges but unswerving commitment to making the difference. We believe that something special is happening in Harrop Fold, Little Hulton and Salford and we have the highest aspirations for the future of all our students, staff and stakeholders.”

The 8 x 60 minute series is being overseen by commissioning editors, Rita Daniels and Nick Mirsky. The series producer is Clare Cameron and the series director is Warren Smith.

The title is to be confirmed, but it will air in the Autumn of 2017.

“Educating is an enormously important part of our documentary output at Channel. We have had a year without the series and are extremely excited to return with a new school in Salford. The new series promises to unearth more inspirational, entertaining and heart-rending stories from the hallways of Harrop Fold, with a few new elements thrown in to the mix,” added Mirsky.
