Channel 4 has commissioned a new 25-part documentary from Leeds indie True North that will follow UK expats as they set up new lives abroad.

Great Escapers (25x60min) will focus on a variety of businesses from B&Bs in France to bars and restaurants in Spain.

David Sayer, Channel 4’s head of daytime, said: “This is a fresh new programme which follows the lives of people after they’ve committed to moving abroad, joining them as they settle in to the challenges, the pitfalls and the benefits of a dramatic life change.”

Jess Fowle, co-founder at Leeds-based True North, added: “True North has real expertise following people through some of the most dramatic and pivotal moments in their lives.

“Our Great Escapers are giving us an intimate insight into what it means to give up everything to try and make their dreams come true and it’s a privilege to go on that journey with them.”

True North is already making a new daytime cookery format, Too Many Cooks, for Channel 4, and has produced a new series about transplants for Channel 5 called Gift of Live.
