Radio 1 has commissioned a documentary from Made in Manchester looking at the young actors who grow up starring in some of Britain’s soaps.

Presented by Scot Mills, the hour-long Generation Soap is part of the station’s Radio 1 Stories strand and airs on Monday.

“From Weatherfield to Walford via Hollyoaks, Emmerdale and Pobol Y Cwm in Wales, we get a real insight into life as a young actor in soap.  Meeting them all, I’ve been truly amazed by the sheer dedication they have to their art. These actors are working long hours to keep us entertained week in, week out. The pace with which they work is quite extraordinary,” said producer and MIM creative director Ashley Byrne.

The actors will talk about the challenges of balancing their long filming days with school work and seeing friends, plus the difficulties and responsibilities of taking on controversial storylines.

The team speak to editors and directors, as well as actors including Brooke Vincent (Coronation Street), Jamie Borthwick (EastEnders), Stephanie Davis (Hollyoaks) and Dyfan Rees (Pobol Y Cwm).

Generation Soap airs on BBC Radio 1 on Monday 14th July 2014 at 9pm.
