BBC Radio Manchester’s documentary ‘In the line of Duty’ has won a prestigious award at the New York Festival Radio Awards.
The programme won Gold in the news documentary category for its story of the shootings of Greater Manchester Police officers Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes, who were murdered in September 2012, and the resulting trial and conviction of Dale Cregan.
News editor Michelle Daniel collected the award on behalf of the station.

She said: “Sometimes journalists have to cover the most awful stories, this one required the whole BBC Radio Manchester newsroom to work as a team to provide coverage not just to the local listeners but also to a national and international audience.”

The awards ceremony took place last night at the Manhattan Penthouse on Fifth Avenue in New York.
Other Gold winners on the night included BBC Radio 5 live for 100 Years of the Yankees: A Bronx Tale and its Energy Day initiative.
