Channel 4 will be airing a special Christmas edition of its hit documentary, Educating Yorkshire.
The one-off programme will revisit Thornhill Academy to see how some of the better known pupils are doing in the new school year as well as looking back at some of the highlights of the programmes, produced by TwoFour.
Channel 4 has also ordered a second series of historical drama, The Mill. The first ever docu-drama from the broadcaster averaged 3.2m viewers during its debut this summer.
Produced by Endemol company, DSP and filmed at Cheshire’s Quarry Bank Mill, this second series will cover the period between 1838 and 1942, a time of Chartist rallies and calls for the working class to get a vote.
“The Mill is that rare thing – a period drama that resonates with 21st century life. It is a massive pleasure to bring it back. Series two is the next chapter in the life of Esther Price, our troublemaking mill girl drawn from the Quarry Bank archives,” said commissioning editor, Julia Harrington.
Three episodes of the 6 part series will be written by John Fay (Coronation Street) and he will lead a writing team for the other half.
“We are delighted that Channel 4 has decided to recommission The Mill. It was a passion project for DSP from the start and we are enormously grateful that Channel 4 had the vision and courage to back it. The collaboration of the history and drama departments has been inspiring. We are really excited about the rich vein of social history we are tapping into for series two,” added Emily Roe, creative director at DSP.
Filming is scheduled to begin in February.
