Monday Moves: Liverpool Hope University, Cunning Plan, Lakestar McCann, Join the Dots and more

Each week, Monday Moves collates all the recent job-related news on Prolific North, as well as running through all the new opportunities on our job board.

Positive news in Liverpool last week, where the launch of a digital entertainment studio called Starship will hopefully mean a “considerable” number of staff recruits over the next few years.

Johnston Press revealed the full depth of its cost-cutting over the last year – a total of 609 jobs lost – but there was better news for Trinity Mirror’s North East operation, which will see a net gain of 17 roles after rolling out a new digital-first newsroom strategy.

Appointments-wise, Louisa Compton will always remember 5 live’s 20th birthday week as the week she left the station to take the editorship of BBC Newsbeat and 1XtraCatherine Beaumont has moved from Stockport Council to Muse Developments, while Stefan Rodgers has joined Degree 53 as part of “major plans for expansion”.

Asda's Stephen Smith Asda’s Stephen Smith

Asda announced 202 job losses but that was good news for CMO Stephen Smith, McCann Manchester appointed a new talent and development director and Johnston Press shuffled some senior roles in the North East. Lancashire County Cricket Club, meanwhile, has a new marketing manager.

On the jobs board this week, Liverpool Hope University is after a “dynamic, creative and hard-working” type to fill its Press and Social Media Officer vacancy. At least two years’ experience is essential while some experience of the higher education sector is preferable.

Full-service Manchester agency Cunning Plan has a role going as an Account Executive or Account Manager – and no Baldricks are allowed. You’ll have a good handle on the complete marketing mix and a “can do attitude”, and some technical experience – HTML, WordPress, Photoshop and the like – would help.

Lakestar McCann is on the lookout for a PPC Account Manager to manage their own portfolio of clients. Previous experience within a PPC role is essential, and the successful candidate will find a free gym membership included in their “competitive” package.

Join the Dots is a “uniquely brilliant place to work”, they say, and now you can join as a Graphic Designer. You’ll be expected to work “autonomously” in what will be a lead role within the business. Up to £30k is on offer.

Are you an ambitious PPC specialist? If so, you could be just the person that theEword is looking for to fill its PPC Executive role. If you’re successful, you’ll get 28 days’ holiday a year – and your birthday off!

Over at UKFast, there’s a job going as a Creative Designer who’s able to able to turn “simple ideas into provocative designs that are the envy of your peers”. Up to £40k is on offer for the right person, and you’ll get free gym membership too.

SK Events and PR in Liverpool needs an Office Manager who can also act as a PA to the director. You’ll take care of all sorts of administrative tasks and manage the director’s diary and travel arrangements. Previous experience in a similar role is required.

A Cheshire agency has an interesting opportunity going as a Photographic Account Manager, and with further offices in Leeds, London and Portugal, there’s a good chance you’ll do some travelling.

Up to £65k is available to the successful applicant for the role of Business Development Director with a “market-leading” design agency. You’ll have a marketing agency background and, needless to say, a good track record.

A Bolton-based retail group has an opening for a “commercially astute, creative, ideas person” to fill its PPC and Search Marketing Executive position, while there are a couple of good looking sports-related roles going – as a Senior Digital Marketing Executive for a sports and leisure group in Merseyside and as a Marketing Executive for a sports apparel brand in Manchester.

No less than Greater Manchester’s “most impressive agency” is after a Senior Account Manager to take the lead on a brand new account, while there’s a Digital Project Manager role going begging with an agency in Cheshire.

We’ll finish this week with three PR roles. A Manchester agency needs a PR Account Manager with a “passion for B2B and digital”, a Leeds agency would like a new PR Account Executive who’s a “confident self-starter” and up in Lancashire there’s a PR and Social Account Executive role on offer.
