Factory behind new Elmer the Patchwork Elephant series

Altrincham-based animation studio Factory is to produce a new series based on David McKee’s classic children’s book Elmer the Patchwork Elephant.

First published by Andersen Press in 1989 and now running to 41 titles, the planned series is a co-production between Clangers producer Factory and publisher Andersen Press.

McKee’s stories of a multi-coloured elephant who finds his place in the herd have been held up as a good way for pre-school children to explore the themes and issues relating to the concept of diversity.

The Elmer books have sold over 10 million copies worldwide and been translated into more than 50 languages.

Phil Chalk, Managing Director of Factory, said: “Elmer is one of the most iconic and widely read children’s book series of all time and we are so excited to be teaming up with Andersen Press and David McKee in bringing Elmer to life for a brand new generation of children.”

Factory, which occupies 35,000 sq ft of bespoke studio and office space in Altrincham, with more than 100 staff, has up to five series in production simultaneously.

It has produced more than 80 hours of animated content since it launched in 2010, including Clangers, Scream Street, Off The Leash, Strange Hill High, Newzoids, and three specials for Disney and Club Penguin.
