Tina Malone goes under the knife for TLC and True North

True North Productions is producing an hour-long documentary as actress, Tina Malone, undergoes a number of cosmetic surgical procedures following a dramatic weightloss.

Tina Malone: My New Body (working title) was commissioned by Sarah Thornton, VP of production and development, factual entertainment for TLC UK and Ireland.

Malone (Shameless, Brookside) had a gastric band fitted in 2010, which helped her reach her goal of being a size eight. She now wants reconstructive surgery to remove the 12lbs of excess skin brought on by the weight-loss and a pregnancy.

She previously featured in a TLC documentary, Pregnant at 50, which was seen by 500k.

“We are really excited to be joining Tina on this extreme body makeover. Tina is giving us access all areas and I’m confident viewers will get to know her like they never have before. Tina’s looking for closure on over 20 years of being the “fat funny one” and hopes one day soon to look in the mirror and like what she sees because as she says herself “I don’t know what that feels like,’” said Fiona O’Sullivan, executive producer for True North Productions in Leeds.

Filming began this month, as she undergoes surgery to her eyes, face, neck and body. The resulting film will look at her family’s response to the surgery and also examine her motivations and responsibilities as a new mother.

“As far as I’m concerned, Tina, Paul and baby Flame Malone are part of the TLC Family,” added Thornton.

“I have no doubt that as ever she and her family and friends will make us all laugh, cry and think about our own lives in a whole new light. I’m also thrilled to be working with Fiona O’Sullivan and the True North team, they are brilliant story tellers and I’m certain the film will deliver on all fronts.”
