Televideo, a Sheffield-based outside broadcast company, has partnered with Sheffield College, to train students for live television production.

The company, which earlier this year, received £100k from Finance Yorkshire, explained that the move was to support regional growth within the sector and to tackle the skills shortage.

“We need more staff with the right skills and training to support business growth. Currently, we have to look for staff nationally when our priority is to recruit home grown talent and invest in the broadcast industry regionally,” said Paul Scivill, managing director of Televideo.

“Our new partnership with The Sheffield College will help us to achieve that and provide training and career prospects to learners at all levels including apprentices as well as diploma and foundation degree students.”

The company, which currently employs 55 staff,  turned over £5m this year.

It will recruit 14 apprentices from Sheffield College to its Televideo Academy, providing work experience and industry talks on media and broadcast.

“Televideo is a leading employer in the outside broadcast industry with contracts around the world. This partnership means we can jointly address the national media and broadcast sector’s skill shortages by developing talent right here in Sheffield,” added Paul Corcoran, chief executive, The Sheffield College.

“Combining the College’s high-tech facilities at Hillsborough with those at the Televideo Training academy will attract and inspire students, and help one of our leading local businesses grow in home and international markets.”
