Peel Media has confirmed that they’ve signed a deal with the University Technical College to bring the £10.4m facility to MediaCityUK.
UTC@MediaCityUK will be based in a 6,200sq metre building on the junction of South Langworthy Road and Broadway.
It’s aimed at 14-19 year olds, with an interest in the creative and digital sectors and the college will enable them to work with employers at MCUK.
The project is funded by the Department for Education and sponsored by The Aldridge Foundation, The University of Salford, Salford City College and The Lowry and further support comes from local businesses.
Opening in September next year, all UTC students will be guaranteed a place on either a Salford City College or University of Salford course so long as they meet the minimum entry requirements.
“As education, training and development continue to be debated by businesses and political figures, it is vital MediaCityUK has a learning hub at the core of its creative environment. Bringing together talent and academia creates a whole host of benefits and opportunities, including knowledge partnership sharing and ultimately job creation,” said Stephen Wild, managing director of MediaCityUK.
“We are proud to have such a diverse and rich range of educational providers located here and working with our creative and media businesses (currently around 120) to create and exploit new opportunities for all – and we warmly welcome the UTC to our community”.
There are already a number of educational establishments on site, including The University of Salford, FutureSkills, Oasis Academy, Bright Future, The Landing and Aqua Rosa.
