New transmitter brings expanded radio choice to Lancashire audiences

Lancashire is getting new radio options

Radio listeners in Lancashire are waking up to more radio choice today (August 1), after a new transmitter in Lancaster was added to the DAB multiplex.

The new addition provides new channels and services for listeners, as well as improved coverage for existing stations.

Radio lovers in Lancaster, Morecambe, Heysham and Carnforth, as well as some in the southern parts of Cumbria, can now enjoy local favourites Rock FM, BBC Radio Lancashire and Greatest Hits Radio Lancashire on their DAB Radio, which is already home to the likes of Absolute Radio, BBC Radio 2 and Magic Radio.

The transmitter is also bringing new stations which were previously unavailable in the area, including Hits Radio, Absolute Classic Rock, Absolute Radio Country and Magic Radio spin-offs Magic Soul and Magic Chilled.

To access the new services, listeners are encouraged to retune their DAB digital radios, usually a simple case of selecting the auto tune or auto scan button, or going to the main menu and pressing auto tune. If this does not locate all services, then listeners are recommended to run a full scan.

The transmitter is the property of Bauer Digital Radio Ltd. Ben Cooper, chief content and music officer, Bauer Media Audio UK, said: “We’re incredibly pleased to be able to bring listeners in Lancashire even more choice thanks to the launch of this new transmitter. From the great songs on Magic Soul to the latest local updates on Rock FM, this is an exciting next step in radio’s digital future, and we can’t wait for Lancashire to join us.”
