Dennis and Lois with Mark and Mat
A film which actually started filming ten years ago has seen a Manchester company nominated for a coveted Q award alongside videos from Coldplay and the Arctic Monkeys.
The video for Elbow’s New York Morning, directed by Mark Thomas and Mat Norman of the Lower Ormond Street based Soup Co, is the only North West produced work to make the shortlist.
Shot in New York City, it’s the heartwarming short documentary about a New York couple called Dennis and Lois, who Thomas and Norman, met while working respectively with Elbow and Doves on a joint tour of the US. With a shared feeling that there was a story to tell, they began filming the couple whenever work brought them near to New York.
Years later, and many hours of footage from staying at Dennis and Lois’s house, the duo started exploring the right format for the project – and that’s when Elbow got involved.
