York Science Park becomes Northern Powerhouse Partner

York Science Park has been named as the newest member of the Northern Powerhouse Partner Programme following the successful launch of phase one of its start-up business incubator.

The Science Park offers flexible office and laboratory spaces to innovative companies working in sectors including science, creative media and tech. The new phase one incubator programme offers start-ups and spin-outs the chance to benefit from free office space, mentoring and business support from a range of experts. 

Having joined the Northern Powerhouse Partner programme, the Science Park is now part of a network of more than 200 businesses across the North excelling in areas including innovation, trade, investment and culture. 

The Northern Powerhouse is the Government’s vision for a more prosperous North.

Claire Bennett, General Manager of York Science Park, said: “Being invited to become a Northern Powerhouse Partner is recognition of the incredible work we do here supporting the most innovative and creative start-ups.

“York is an amazing city and the Science Park is home to an entrepreneurial ecosystem at the heart of the University of York’s incredible campus. We’re very proud to be recognised as key partners in supporting innovation in the North.

“We are sure that our resident businesses will go on to play major roles in developing the economy of the north, working on the very cutting edge of incredible fields like medtech, insuretech, software, app development and much much more. Our role is to support them with the challenges they face and to build and support an environment that fosters innovation.”

Currently home to 130 companies, in the heart of York University Campus, they are best placed to help us realise the economic potential of the North and promote the success of the region throughout the rest of the UK.”
