McDonald’s and rapper Aitch hit Manchester for a ‘grimey’ rewards app launch

He's justified, he's Aitch and he drives an ice cream van

Fast food giant McDonald’s was joined by grime star Aitch for a surprise Manchester gig on Monday night to celebrate the launch of MyMcDonald’s Rewards, the brand’s first ever rewards scheme.

To qualify for the rewards scheme, customers will need to download the McDonald’s app from the Apple or Google store and opt in to MyMcDonald’s Rewards. They will then earn 100 points for every £1 spent, with every penny spent equating to one point, and points exchangable for free menu items once 1,500 have been accumulated.

Manchester-born Aitch performed for fans inside a mercifully air-conditioned venue on the hottest day on record (at least until Tuesday), with a set including some of his biggest hits including 1989, In Disguise, Rain and Baby.

Getting further into the spirit, Aitch also jumped in the McFlurry van to dish out frozen treats to keep people cool, handed out McDonald’s merch including bucket hats to keep the sun away, and take selfies with the fans who came to see him perform at the event.

McDonald’s is continuing to celebrate the launch of its new rewards app on tour throughout July. The next event takes place in Newcastle on Wednesday July 20, and will feature TV presenter Rylan and reality TV star Vicky Pattison greeting customers in the McFlurry van, with further events following in Glasgow Cardiff, London and Birmingham.

As part of the tour, McDonald’s is also giving away five million rewards points to customers, crew and their charity partners including BBC Children in Need, FareShare and Ronald McDonald House Charities. Check McDonald’s socials for the latest on timings and locations for the tour.

McDonald’s is one of the UK’s largest private sector employers, employing over 130,000 people.
