Krishnan Guru-Murthy is to replace Jon Snow as the main anchor for Channel 4 News.

The broadcaster has also announced plans to advertise for a new presenter, based at its new Leeds base.

Guru-Murthy, who was recently named Network Presenter of the Year by the Royal Television Society, will be based in London and will continue to play a lead role on Unreported World and weekly podcast, Ways to Change the World.

Cathy Newman will become Channel 4 News’ Investigation Editor, while European Editor, Matt Frei, will become its main foreign presenter.

Jackie Long remains Social Affairs Editor and will front programmes and specials.

“This line up is built around the strength and specialisms of the current presenting team, while the expanded presenting and production presence in Leeds means we can better reflect interests and concerns from all over the country,” explained Esme Wren, Editor of Channel 4 News.

“Krishnan is one of the pre-eminent communicators of his generation with an unparalleled combination of authority and accessibility. Cathy’s role reflects her status as one of the most tenacious story-getters working in TV news today. Matt is one of the most highly awarded TV journalists, acclaimed for his insightful and engaging approach to the global issues shaping our future.

“Jackie combines persistence with sensitivity to win the trust of those sharing some of the toughest stories.”

Once the Leeds host has been appointed, Channel 4 will be the first British network broadcasters to regularly co-present from 2 locations.
