Amazon says it will become one of the UK’s ten largest private sector employers as it ramps up recruitment, with 4000 new permanent roles.

That will take its total UK staff numbers to 75k, with 40k of those jobs created in the last 3 years.

Today’s announcement comes as it opens new fulfilment centres in Wakefield and Knowsley. It will also be recruiting across its corporate and tech functions at Amazon and Amazon Web Services (AWS), with software development, product management and engineering.

“We’re continuing to invest in talent right across the UK, from apprentices in Swansea to data scientists in Edinburgh. People join us not just for the wide variety of roles, great pay and benefits, but for the career development opportunities we provide,” said John Boumphrey, Amazon UK Country Manager.

“Applicants recognise we are an employer that offers great development potential, and we are proud to have so many employees growing and taking the opportunity to learn new skills that will create paths to new jobs at Amazon and beyond.”

Amazon opened its first UK corporate office outside of London in Manchester two years ago.
