The BBC’s biggest ever Education initiative, Bitesize Daily received 5.5m iPlayer requests and 3.8m online visits a week during the pandemic.

Filmed at dock10’s studios in MediaCityUK, the BBC delivered 150 online lessons and 30 dedicated television programmes each week to support home schooling.

Famous “teachers” included Sir David Attenborough, Jodie Whittaker, Liam Payne, Jesse Lingard and Dina Asher Smith.

“In April, we said we would be there for parents and children in navigating home schooling and these incredible figures show just how many have come to us. We are incredibly proud of what has been achieved during what has been a truly difficult time,” said Helen Foulkes, Head of BBC Education.

“We hope that through this pandemic, parents and children have discovered how vast and informative BBC Bitesize is and that they will continue to come to us throughout that academic journey.”

There has also been increased engagement on social media, through interactive games and quizzes, such as ‘Take on the Teacher’. These have brought 110k new fans on Facebook, over 25k new followers on Twitter, and over 21k new followers on Instagram.

All 1800 BBC Bitesize Daily lessons will remain online over the summer, as well as a challenge from Sir David Attenborough to create a nature diary over the holidays.
