BBC One has commissioned a documentary series following the fortunes of the “Class of ’92” as they invest in Salford City FC.

Salford Dreams United (working title) is being made by Electric Ray.

It features Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt, Gary and Phil Neville, as they try to take Salford, which has an average crowd of 150, up the league.

Commissioned by BBC One controller, Charlotte Moore and BBC documentaries commissioning editor, Maxine Watson, it will air on BBC One later this year.

“It’s a real coup to give BBC One viewers such extraordinary access through this new documentary series, which follows the story of these famous ex-Manchester United players and football heroes. It’s a window into a passionate local community, as this club has a chance to be part of a bigger playing field and realise their dreams,” said Moore.

The documentary will cover the highs and lows of the football club, from doubling the grass-seed budget, to refitting the toilets and changing the colour of the team’s strip.

Electric Ray is a joint venture with Sony Pictures Television.
