Motion capture monster movie being made in Merseyside

Anghenfil

A new motion capture monster film is being made in Merseyside and has international ambitions.

Independent production Anghenfil tells the story of a legendary monster woken from its centuries-long slumber to wreak havoc on a small British town.

What sets it apart is the use of motion capture software normally reserved for Hollywood productions such as Star Wars or Planet of the Apes.

Filming locations include Crank Caverns in St Helens, the seaside town of West Kirby and the Williamson Tunnels of Liverpool.

Director Ryan Garry said: “Support from the community has been fantastic, with organisations like FACT in Liverpool very interested in the development of the technology and Action Transport Theatre in Ellesmere Port lending us the use of their dance studio for rehearsals.

“It’s taken about a year to get to this stage – constantly testing and refining the technology to make sure it was screen-ready. It was a really positive acknowledgement of the work put in that I was chosen to exhibit the system earlier this year at Liverpool Makefest.”

Anghenfil is currently in its early stages of filming and will be released in 2019.
