BBC attracts record women’s football audience for England opener

BBC Women's World Cup

England’s win over Scotland in their opening game of the Women’s World Cup yesterday attracted a peak audience of 6.1 million viewers, making it the UK’s most watched women’s football game of all time.

The game on BBC One attracted a 37.8% share of the available TV audience. The figure breaks the previous record of 4 million viewers for England’s Euro 2017 semi-final against the Netherlands.

Ellen White and Nikita Parris scored as England claimed a 2-1 victory in Nice. England face Argentina on Friday in their second group game at 8pm.
