Bytemark Hosting in York is investing £1.2m in a new headquarters and data centre in York as well as expanding its office in Manchester.
The firm, which describes itself as “the UK’s geek hosting outfit of choice” has also made two senior hires.

Duncan Slater, who has worked in the ad industry across the North for over 20 years has joined the McCann Erickson Central operation in Birmingham as its new director of business development.

Beattie Communications has expanded its senior team in Leeds with the appointment of Rachel Gladwin as associate director. Gladwin moves from Brass, where she headed up its PR division working for a diverse range of clients including the BBC, Kellogg’s and The Peel Group.

Citypress has strengthened its consultancy team with the appointment of Tom Kirkham as senior account director. He joins from London agency Blue Rubicon, where he spent more than three years advising clients including Shell, Aviva, Experian and Royal Mail as a senior consultant. Before that he spent six years at B2B technology PR firm Johnson King.

Greater Manchester Business Growth Hub has teamed up with Creative England to create their first joint hub with Creative England - with one manager to head it up. As the new digital creative media sector development manager, Sam Winder will be developing a range of business support services.

James Mitchinson has been named as the new editor of Sheffield’s daily, The Star. The appointment has also triggered a wider shake-up among JP editors with his old job in Chesterfield going to Graeme Huston, currently editor of theDoncaster Free Press, South Yorkshire Times and associated titles.

PR consultant Jenny Wilkinson has left Leeds agency Brass to join Aberfield Communications. The former journalist, who had been at Brass for two years, joins Aberfield as a senior consultant.

Erin Portsmouth, one of the best-known figures on the North West PR scene, has landed a new senior communications role within the NHS. CIPR NW chair Portsmouth has been named as the new head of communications and engagement at NHS Chorley and South Ribble Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS Greater Preston CCG.

Manchester Evening News business reporter James Ferguson has been hired by Citypress. Ferguson, who has been working as part of the paper's general news team since it restructured earlier this year, joins the Manchester-based agency as a content specialist.

B42 in Wakefield has appointed its sixth member of staff and doubled its office space.
The digital and PR agency was only set up six months ago, by former freelance web developer, Steve Browett.
