Former Daily Mail and Press Association journalist, Chris Marritt is to lead a new strategic media unit at Weber Shandwick North. He’ll be assisted by Chris Walker, a former Oxford Mail and Doncaster Free Press reporter.

A marketing specialist has been appointed as the new chief executive at York-based Benenden Health, as the mutual gears up for a period of rapid expansion. Marc Bell moves from marketing and business strategy director to replace Ken Hesketh, who has stepped down after four years in charge. Simon Fuller has left TBWA Manchester to become digital solutions director at Cirrus, the brand engagement and leadership development specialists. Neil McIntosh, the former deputy editor of The Wall Street Journal’s Europe edition is to join the BBC as managing editor for BBC Online and Red Button at MediaCityUK. He will be responsible for the BBC homepage and BBC search as well as providing strategic and operational leadership for BBC Online and content on the Red Button service.

SEONext has appointed former Northampton Town and Oldham Athletic defender Andy Holt as its new head of commercial development. The Manchester SEO agency marks something of a career change for the 34-year-old from Stockport, who will be hanging up his boots after 17 years as a professional footballer.

Former Yorkshire Post journalist Jeremy Cross has been confirmed as the new chief sports writer of The Daily Star. Cross joined the Star three years ago from the Wardles Agency and replaces Brian Woolnough, who died of cancer in September. has revealed a series of changes to its senior marketing team following the departure of consumer marketing director, Paul Troy.

Rather than replacing Troy, the Flintshire-based firm has instead given new senior brand director, Gareth Helm a wider remit to cover some of the areas previously handled by Troy.
