Software development company Godel Technologies Europe has appointed James Blake as sales director. Blake joins the Manchester-based company from Blackboard, where he worked with organisations and educational institutions to deliver services using technology.

Cream in Barnsley has been signed up by 4 new clients and appointed former journalist Lucy Ashton as its PR manager. Ashton, previously news editor at Postcode Gazette and political editor of The Star newspaper, spent a year as regional press officer for The Labour Party.

Cheshire agency The fresh Group has been appointed by United Utilities after a competitive pitch - and has also revealed plans to open a London office. Fresh joins the North West water provider's marketing and design roster as creative agency, and has already begun its first campaign due for launch in the summer.

Bauer Media has appointed Owen Ryan as group programme director across 16 Place radio stations in the North of England and Scotland. The new role will see Ryan, who joined Bauer in February last year as Hallam FM programme director, lead the programme directors and look to create a content strategy to enhance and drive listener loyalty. He will work closely with director of music Gary Stein.

PR agency Tangerine has promoted Jo Dudley and Marie Carter to its senior management team. Dudley, who leads Tangerine’s automotive and transport client portfolio, will now be responsible for ‘Brand Tangerine’, working alongside group MD Sandy Lindsay to develop the external face of the agency.

Manchester Digital, the independent trade association for the North West’s digital sector, has named Rachel Thompson as its new events and marketing manager.

Steve Penk's Revolution Radio has appointed Simon Walker as commercial director. Walker joins from Stockport-based Pure Innovations, and prior to that he was managing director of Tameside Radio.

Mike Sassi, the current editor of The Sentinel in Stoke has joined the Nottingham Post, also as editor. Both publications are part of the Local World print group, which has confirmed that the process to replace him at The Sentinel has already begun.

Nicola Stout, head of HR across all of the BBC's news operations in the North, has joined Lime Pictures in Liverpool as its new head of HR.

As part of some new senior changes announced at the BBC, Peter Salmon the director of BBC North, has been given additional responsibilities to his current role leading the divisions based at MediaCity in Salford.
