Dalesman editor-in-chief steps down after less than six months in post

The Dalesman

Dan Clare, the editor of the Dalesman Publishing Company who took up the role in September 2021, has announced his resignation.

Clare was Editor of The Yorkshire Dalesman and Cumbria magazine, and Editor-in-chief of The Countryman and  Lakeland Walker, taking over from Jon Stokoe, who became editor of five of Newsquest’s Yorkshire weekly newspapers in September.

Before securing his role at Newsquest, Stokoe appealed for new opportunities on social media when it was revealed his time at The Dalesman was ending.

Dan Clare has also taken to social media, posting yesterday on LinkedIn that “I will be available to commence a new chapter in my working life from Monday 2nd May onwards”, having submitted his three-month notice.

He added: “Whether it will be a permanent role with a single company or freelance for several, only time will tell. But whatever the outlook, I will bring my A-game to the table every time.”

Clare was previously editor of Scootering Magazine and formerly at the helm of an importer and restorer of classic Lambretta and Vespa scooters.
