Purple Riot wins UK’s biggest urban music event brief

Selected Sounds

Manchester’s Purple Riot has been appointed to manage the marketing and PR for the UK’s biggest urban music event.

First launched in 2016, Selected Sounds will hit the BEC Arena (aka Bowlers) in Trafford on November 19-20, with a capacity of 4,500 people and a line-up of globally renowned urban performers and DJ’s.

Selected Sounds’ 2016 debut at Loughborough Students Union featured artists including Lethal Bizzle and chart-topping rapper Chip, formerly known as Chipmunk. The brand has since continued its success with events in London and Leeds – featuring artists such as MOBO Song of the Year award winners Young T & Bugsey and Tinie Tempah’s rapping protegee Yxng Bane aka Young Bane. The Selected Sounds event in Manchester is set to be the biggest yet, with a full line-up of the UK urban talent soon to be announced.

Purple Riot will deliver a four-month integrated marketing strategy across the North, including PR, social media, experiential activity, content creation, digital marketing, OOH advertising, partnership and sponsorship management, and influencer marketing.

Nikki Kitchen, founder and managing director at Purple Riot, said: “This is an incredibly exciting brief for us that builds on our existing hospitality, nightlife, and events credentials. Selected Sounds is a fantastic, established nightlife brand for students and club-goers across the UK, and we’re thrilled to bring the party to Manchester.”

TJ Yesufu, founder of Selected Sounds, added: “We loved the creativity and energy brought by Purple Riot during the pitch process, and we’re looking forward to making our mark on Manchester. We’ve always hosted sell-out events, and we expect this one to be no different. November 2022 – here we come!”

Purple Riot was established in 2012 and has previous experience in the entertainment and lifestyle sphere having delivered marketing and PR to brands such as tenpin, Mahiki and Roxy Ballroom.
